Snapshot of Truth: Late Bloomer

Late Bloomer

There’s a deep spiritual truth in this photo. Behold the late bloomer. For months, these amaryllis bulbs have been showing foliage, but no blooms. They just weren’t fulfilling their intended purpose. I’d actually given up that they would ever flower but kept them around because the green was nice. But then, a small stalk with a bud appeared. It was just a bud for weeks and I still wasn’t sure anything would come of it.

Then today, I noticed it – the long-awaited destiny of every bulb, the flower. This is a much-needed reminder for me that whatever we plant in faith must be allowed time to blossom. It may not happen on our schedule, but God knows exactly when He will bring forth what He has been carefully fashioning in secret.

Be encouraged today. God has a plan and a purpose for your waiting. Maybe you’ve been praying and longing but nothing has happened yet. Don’t lose heart. What you plant in faith is in the Master Gardener’s hands, which are the best of hands.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
