SONG: This week, I have chosen another more contemporary Christmas song. Chris Rice’s 1997 song Welcome to Our World is a quiet, tender ode to the Newborn King. The song itself mirrors the gentle humility with which Jesus entered this side of Heaven.

SCRIPTURE: So unlikely, isn’t it? The Messiah, the long awaited Savior, was born in the lowliest of places and cradled in a manger. It’s simply incredible and is God’s way of underscoring the fact that His ways are higher than ours. His wisdom is beyond our understanding. So the King of Kings was wrapped in spare rags and nestled into hay on His first night on Earth. This was all to show how He would live a humble life of loving service to others, even yielding to death on a cross. This model of humility and self sacrifice should be at the center of the Christian life.
And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
Luke 2:7
PRAYER: Father God, when I think of my own children, it is hard to imagine their entrance into the world being like Your Son’s: dirty, cold, lowly and lonely. I can’t begin to understand the love you must have for us, to allow Your own Son to leave the splendor of heaven for such a place. Thank you so much for demonstrating Your love and showing us a model of humility and grace in Your Son Jesus. In His name I pray, AMEN.
