SONG: This week’s song is Oceans by Hillsong United. The first time I heard this song, I fell in love with it because of the universal truth it shares. Oceans refers to the action of stepping out in faith, despite feeling fear and uncertainty. When we step out, God will meet us. Sometimes it might not appear as such and we may begin to sink into doubt, but if we fix our eyes on Jesus, we rise. Our action of faith in the midst of uncertainty not only allows God to demonstrate His power and faithfulness, but it increases our faith when we begin to see Him working. If He calls you, He will carry you.
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders.
Let me walk upon the waters,
Wherever You would call me.
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander.
And my faith will be made stronger,
In the presence of my Savior.
As you listen to this song, be inspired and encouraged to boldly trust Him to take you beyond what you ever imagined possible.
SCRIPTURE: The scripture connected to Oceans is the account of Peter stepping out of a boat onto a storm-tossed sea in Matthew 14. The disciples were alone in the boat in the midst of fierce winds and waves and they were terrified. Then they spotted Jesus walking towards them on the waves and thought He was a ghost.
But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”
And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.”
He said, “Come.”
So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.”
Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him,“O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.
And those in the boat worshiped him, saying,“Truly you are the Son of God.”
Matthew 14:27-33 ESV
Peter’s fear is so relatable. Even though he’d seen the miracles and majesty of Jesus firsthand, he was still afraid to step out in faith. So it is with me. Despite receiving many blessings and provisions from God, I still have fear and doubt. But He is always faithful. Always. Continuing to pray, seek and worship Him is the only prescription for the affliction of fear. In light of this, I will seek Him daily. I pray expectantly for Him to do the impossible and will answer His call, no matter where it may lead.
Continuing to pray, seek and worship Him is the only prescription for the affliction of fear.
PRAYER: Jesus, lead me to where my “trust is without borders”. I want to step out when You call me and not be bound by fear and doubt. I pray you would forgive my unbelief and fill me with confidence that whatever You have asked of me is possible by Your power. I trust you and ask you to increase my faith. Thank you for your faithfulness to me. I praise you and give you all the glory for whatever you allow me to accomplish. AMEN.

and Spirit directed.
Very relevant since tomorrow, 2/5/23,
we will be discussing Oceans in a new
small group which covers the “message
in the music”.
