A Cozy Cup: Plum Deluxe Tea Review

Few things partner as beautifully with a rainy spring day as a cup of tea. There’s just something about slowing down and putting the kettle on that allows us to reset our minds and hearts. It’s even better if a friend is there to join you.

It should come as no surprise that I am a tea lover, given the name of this blog. I’m excited to introduce you to Plum Deluxe, an incredible tea company offering high-quality tea that is affordable and responsibly sourced. Information regarding Plum Deluxe’s responsible sourcing can be found at the bottom of each product page. You can read more HERE.

This review will not only provide information about the tea, but photos of the high-quality product as well as the process for making the perfect cup of tea. Enjoy!

Plum Deluxe sent me four teas, which are pictured and described below.

Gratitude Blend (Strawberry Earl Grey)

Berry Blissful Citrus

Earl Grey is my favorite kind of tea. When I saw that Plum Deluxe had a Strawberry Earl Grey, I was intrigued. This is a rich, dark, black tea that boasts orange peel to enhance the Bergamot flavor. It also infuses strawberries and raspberry leaves to brighten the blend. Tiny, delicate cornflowers stud the blend adding not only a visually pleasing pop of color, but health benefits too, as they are known for their medicinal properties. The tea smells like a fruit fantasy when dry, but the real treat comes when infused in boiling water, releasing the aromatic blend of bright citrus and floral notes.

Stargazer Caramel Mate Chai

Spicy Sweet Sipping

This gorgeous tea smells like a spice market. Cardamom, ginger, anise, orange peel, cloves, and cinnamon provide a spicy-sweet treat. This unique tea is made of the leaves of yerba mate (a member of the holly family), which is popular in many South American countries. This tea is known for providing a kick of energy that rivals that of a strong cup of coffee. Earthy, spicy, zippy – all three are good descriptors for this unique variety of tea offered by Plum Deluxe. I enjoyed it with a splash of milk. Lovely!

Breakfast in Bed Black Tea (blackberry/hazelnut)

Fruity Nutty Goodness

Tea infused with nuts is a rare find. Since hazelnuts and blackberries are my two favorites, I knew this tea would be something special. Like the Gratitude Blend, this tea also contains periwinkle cornflowers. This black tea features blackberries and hazelnut essence, making it a unique combination of earthy and bright. The rich hazelnut is tempered by the fruity component of berries. This is especially delicious with a little milk and a plain tea biscuit. Dunk away!

Fog Cutter Black Tea (Irish Breakfast with a hint of lemon)

Dark Rich Robust

This black tea blend includes Assam, Ceylon, African, and Darjeeling varieties. It is a robust blend that is brightened by lemon peel. The most simple of the blends I tried, I enjoyed the depth of flavor. It is a strong, tasty blend that stands on its own merit. Fog Cutter is aptly named, as it provides a nice boost of flavor (and caffeine) to get your day going. This is the tea I enjoy drinking on a rainy day with honey and milk.

Tea Preparation

Using loose tea is just as easy as using a prepackaged tea bag. I like to use a tea strainer. You can opt for a tea ball style that is immersed into the cup, or a mini sieve style that sits atop the rim of the cup. The advantage of the tea ball is that you can use it in any size cup, whereas if you like an extra large mug, the on-top strainer may prove too small.

Plum Deluxe offers a variety of tea accessories, including both types of strainer, which can be found HERE.

Boil a pot of water and place 1 teaspoon of loose Plum Deluxe tea in your strainer. I like to use a little more tea in an extra-large cup (1.5 teaspoons). Pour boiling water through sit-atop strainer or into a cup with your filled tea ball. Let steep for about 3-5 minutes, depending on how strong you like your tea.

If I sweeten my tea, I like to use honey, especially with the Strawberry Earl Grey and Fog Cutter. The honey complements the floral/citrus flavors. I enjoyed milk in all four of these teas. I plan on trying the Strawberry Earl Grey as an iced tea now that it is warming up in my corner of the world. Plum Deluxe Teas are delicious, and as a bonus, they have a wonderful website that includes a blog.

Their company culture emphasizes creating moments that matter and focusing on gratitude and simplicity. I’m thrilled to have connected with them and become a Tea Ambassador. I’m also now planning to be a customer so I can choose unique and responsibly sourced teas that allow people to enjoy a quiet moment over a cup of tea.

Enjoy a cozy cup and conversation or curl up with a good book. I hope you’ll try what Plum Deluxe has to offer.
